Dr. Bobby Donaldson, Ward One Research

Dr. Bobby Donaldson is an Associate Professor of History at the University of South Carolina-Columbia and President of Preston Residential College. He received his undergraduate degree in History and African American Studies from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT and his Ph.D. in American History from Emory University. Previously, he held fellowships at Dartmouth College and the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute at Harvard University.
Professor Donaldson's teaching and research examine southern history and African American intellectual life and culture in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. He has worked on numerous museum exhibitions, historic preservation projects, oral histories, and documentary films. In 2008, the Historic Columbia Foundation awarded Dr. Donaldson and his students the Helen Kohn Hennig Prize for their documentary project on the Ward One community in downtown Columbia. In 2010, Professor Donaldson received a Michael J. Mungo Undergraduate Teaching Award.
Jade McDuffie, Ward One Research & Web Site Creator
Jade McDuffie is a 2012 graduate of the University of South Carolina-Columbia Honors College. While at USC she majored in Journalism and minored in Political Science. She was first introduced to the Ward One Community in 2009 while taking a documentary history class led by Dr. Bobby Donaldson. Since then, she has dedicated time to the Ward One Community through independent study.
Since graduating Jade has continued to work with the Ward One Community by developing their Web site, while also working as a reporter for the Post and Courier newspaper in Charleston, SC. In the fall of 2013 she will begin her studies at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in Baltimore, MD, but will continue to have a relationship with the Ward One community.
